“So John was beheaded in the prison, and his head was brought on a tray and given to the girl, who took it to her mother. Later, John’s disciples came for his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus what had happened. As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. That evening the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves.” But Jesus said, “That isn’t necessary—you feed them.” “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish!” they answered. “Bring them here,” he said. Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave the bread to the disciples, who distributed it to the people. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers. About 5,000 men were fed that day, in addition to all the women and children!” (Matthew 14:10-21 NLT)
Good day family! Jesus has just found out about the death of his cousin John the Baptist and retreated to a remote place to be alone but the crowd followed him. Jesus had compassion for them and ministered to them. But Jesus did more for them than just heal the sick. He went the extra mile and feed all of them as well.
Family as followers of Christ we will find our selves in situations where we want a moment to our self to rest or take care of our needs, but God will show us someone who needs to be ministered to above and beyond what we normally do. It will require us to put our self aside and put that person first. The disciples wanted to send the crowd to the villages so they can get food. But Jesus said no you feed them.
Sometimes we want to make the obvious choice and send that person off to get their needs meet. But God is saying “What they need is right here. I have enabled you to provide it!” We may do like the disiciples and say “I only have this little bit” And God will say “OK bring it here!” And He will take the little bit of faith and obedience and turn it into a massive blessing.
God works above and beyond what we think. So when the time comes to go above and beyond, be ready! Christ went a step above and we will follow suit. Be A STEP ABOVE!
Much Love & God Bless
