Morning Coffee 7/31/14   Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Laodicea (Lukewarm)

mc

“This letter is from John to the seven churches in the province of Asia. Grace and peace to you from the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come; from the seven fold  Spirit before his throne; and from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us.  He has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.” (Revelation 1:4-6 NLT)

John the apostle is on the island of Patmos writing the seven churches in a region know as Asia Minor (which is now part southwest Turkey today) God saw the good and bad in each church and He had a message for each of them.

The Church In Laodicea “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!  You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.  So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.  I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.”

Laodicea, the seventh and final church in Asia Minor. They thought they were all that and a bag of chips with fries on the side. But Christ seeing through all the junk shows them who they really are. He calls them lukewarm, wretched, and miserable. “Nether hot or cold.” Christ calls them to come to Him and he will open there spiritual eyes, He will clothe their spiritual nakedness He will give them real pure gold (His word) then they will be truly rich. Christ is knocking on the door of their hearts. If any of them hear Him and lets Him in He will abide with them and fellowship with them.

God loves us. We are His, when we are straying from Him, He will bring correction. Why? because we are bough with a price. Christ blood is the payment for our sins. God wants us to dwell with Him when our time here on earth is finished. So don’t bristle up when you receive correction from our heavenly Father. He is just getting you back on track with Him.

Much Love & God Bless

Morning Coffee 7/30/14 Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Philadelphia (Endure 2)

John the apostle is on the island of Patmos writing the seven churches in a region know as Asia Minor (which is now part southwest Turkey today) God saw the good and bad in each church and He had a message for each of them.

The Church In Philadelphia “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me. Look, I will force those who belong to Satan’s synagogue—those liars who say they are Jews but are not—to come and bow down at your feet. They will acknowledge that you are the ones I love. “Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world. I am coming soon.  Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown. All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

Just like the church in Smyrna, the church in Philadelphia was weak; it endured much persecution from the so called Jews. Christ encourages the believers, He tells them He will force the so called Jews to bow before them. And He will protect them from the great time of testing that is coming. Christ tells them to hold tight to what they have.  So that no one can remove their crown.

When I read the about the church in Philadelphia, God bought this famous Psalm to my mind. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23 KJV) That says it all! “In the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil!” “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies!” NEED I SAY MORE!?!

Morning Coffee 7/29/14 Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Sardis (The Dead Church)

The Church In Sardis “I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.    Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief. “Yet there are some in the church in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes with evil. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (Revelation 3:2-6 NLT)

Let’s get straight to the point. The Church in Sardis is dead, what little life is left is dying. They were known for life but things have changed. Christ calls them revive what life is left. Their actions don’t please God. It’s time to return to Christ, and let Him restore them. Those that are still walking faithfully will receive there reward for their faithfulness. Those that don’t wake up will suffer the consequences.

Is you Christian walk dead. At one point mine was. I was on a path of self destruction, but God stepped in and gave me a yearlong reality check (that’s for another morning coffee.) It woke me up and I realized how much I needed God. This is your reality check WAKE UP! THE WAY YOU ARE LIVING IS GOING TO DISTROY YOU! Plug back into Christ the ultimate source of life! For you who have been faithful in a dead situation. Continue your faithfulness; you will receive your reward.

Morning Coffee 7/28/14 Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Thyatira (Lead Astray)

The Church In Thyatira “I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things. “But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols. I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to turn away from her immorality. “Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve. “But I also have a message for the rest of you in Thyatira who have not followed this false teaching (‘deeper truths,’ as they call them—depths of Satan, actually). I will ask nothing more of you    except that you hold tightly to what you have until I come. To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, To them I will give authority over all the nations. They will rule the nations with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots. They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star! “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (Revelations 2:19-29 NLT)

Over all the church in Thyatira was ok. They had love, they had faith. They served faithfully, and endured trials with patience. But just as in the other churches there were issues. Jezebel a self proclaimed prophet was leading many believers astray. Her teachings lead them into sexual sin and idolatry. And the church was permitting all this. Christ warns them that he will soon bring Jezebel to her knees with suffering. And all who follow her will suffer the same fate unless they repent. Christ encourages those who are staying faithful to Him to continue to do so.

Sometimes we have people come into our life that can lead us astray. One moment we are severing God, the next we are neck deep in sin. God will bring down anything that is against Him. And the ones who don’t take heed to the warning and call to repentance will suffer with them. If you have been faithfully serving the Lord keep doing so. But if you have been lead astray by a “Jezebel” here is your warning! They will bring you down! Cut them lose and turn back to Christ and serve Him as you did before. Be on the lookout for “Jezebels” that may enter your life. Once spotted eliminate them. The saying “misery loves company” is so very true. Satan wants to take as many people as he can to hell. Don’t be one of them.

Much Love & God Bless

Morning Coffee 7/27/14 Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Pergamum (Tolerated Sin)

The Church in Pergamum “I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan’s city. “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching. Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.” (Revelation 2:13-17 NLT)

The Church in Pergamum faced a lot of persecution like the church in Smyrna. They were loyal to Christ and stood firm in their faith even when one their own brothers was martyred. But they had some issues. They have permitted some Nicolaitans (a group of people that Jesus could not tolerate) to infiltrate the church with false teachings that would eventual lead them away from Christ. But Jesus gives them this hope, Calls them to repent of their sin, and get back in line with Him. If they didn’t were going to reap sever consequences!

What sin has crept its way into your life? You know it’s there but you have allowed it to stay. These sins can be the most subtle but over time they will do major damage to our walk with Christ. I know I got some things. Time to do some house cleaning! We can’t allow anything to derail our relationship with Christ.

Morning Coffee 7/26/14 Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Smyrna (Endure)

The Church in Smyrna “I know about your suffering and your poverty—but you are rich! I know the blasphemy of those opposing you. They say they are Jews, but they are not, because their synagogue belongs to Satan. Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. The devil will throw some of you into prison to test you. You will suffer for ten days. But if you remain faithful even when facing death, I will give you the crown of life. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Whoever is victorious will not be harmed by the second death.” (Revelation 2:9-11 NLT)

The church in Smyrna had to endure a lot they faced much persecution from a group of people that claim to be Jews but really aren’t. Christ encourages them to stand firm. And endure they may not have much in the physically but they are rich in spirit. Christ warns them of coming persecution from satan. He encourages them to remain faithful. No matter what happens even in the face of death. In the end they will receive their reward for their faithfulness.

As followers of Christ we will face persecution. We will have to take a stand Christ. And when that persecution comes we must endure, just as Christ endured the cross. Our reward for enduring the trials of this earthly life is eternal life and so much more. God will give you the strength to endure any and all trial that will come your way

Morning Coffee 7/25/14 Seven Churches (We all Got Issues): Ephesus (First Love)

The Church in Ephesus “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. You have patiently suffered for me without quitting. “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!  Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lamp stand from its place among the churches but this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:2-7 NLT)

The Church in Ephesus are hard workers in the faith and have great endurance. They have a “no tolerance policy” for evil people. They discern people who claim they are an apostle of Christ. But there fire for Christ has diminished. Their love for Christ and each other is not what it used to be. They are a shadow of what they were. Christ calls them to repent and turn back to Him, there First Love. And serve Him as they did in the beginning. Christ warns them that if they didn’t He would remove them from their place among the churches.

Have you lost your fire for Christ your first love? You are still serving Him, but not with all fire and desire that you once had. Jesus is calling to you! “Come back to me! I was your first True Love! I bought you up out of your mess! I established you, and made you a beacon on a hill! Why has your fire grown dim for me? Return to me my beloved, I was and will always be your First Love!”

Morning Coffee 7/24/14 Don’t Be Afraid Of Revelation

mc

“This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.” (Revelation 1:1-3 NLT)

Many times I have read the book of Revelation and walked away from it feeling scared or intimidated. So I began to avoid it, thinking “it’s ok Ill just read the other sixty five books.” That is not what God intended when He gave us His word.

Yes the book of Revelation is very graphic and at times it can be a lot to take in. Don’t try to take it in all at once. Take a little bite at a time. There is a lot to learn and God want you to be able to digest every bit of it. You can’t eat an elephant in one sitting. Read a little then study it and let it sink in. Read it with another brother or sister who is mature enough in God to help you.

Don’t approach it with a fear mind set. Yes Revelation has more apocalyptic destruction than all of Hollywood can dream up. But when we read about these things fear should not enter us. Remember we are on the winning team. If Jesus Christ is your Lord and savior you have nothing to fear.

Revelation is an awesome book but I would not ask a brand new Christian to read it. Read this book when God says you are ready. This is not a light read by any means. I just want to encourage you not to fear or be intimidated by it. When God says the time is right Grab a mature brother or sister in the Lord that has been a mentor to you and ask them if they would study Revelation with you! Don’t be afraid of Revelation. It is God’s word and it will bless us!

Much Love & God Bless
